USF Theatre Alumnus Matthew Lopez鈥檚 Play 'The Inheritance' Comes to Broadway this Fall

The Inheritance, a play by USF theatre alumnus and playwright Matthew Lopez, will make its Broadway debut at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in the fall of 2019.

In April, the play took home four prestigious Olivier Awards in the categories of best new play, best director, best actor, and best lighting after its debut with the Young Vic theatre in London.

The Inheritance, inspired by the novel Howards End by E.M. Forster, tells the story of the conversation between three generations of gay men living in New York City. Lopez鈥檚 play represents a desire for intergenerational discourse among gay men to examine the impact of AIDS, how the community has changed over the decades, and what it means to be a gay man in New York City.

Stephen Daldry will direct the play for its American debut. Previews will begin September 27 and the show will open on November 17.
