Stanley R. Russell, AIA, is a licensed architect and Associate Professor. He teaches advanced design courses, Architectural History, a course on Japanese Architecture and the theory course, Design Thinking. He has led summer study abroad courses and workshops in Japan and Europe.

Russell has coordinated several community projects with SACD students and local municipalities and organizations. The projects have included the design and construction of a park pavilion in Temple Terrace, the design and construction of a food pantry in East Tampa and the design and construction of the Flex House, the 2011 Team Florida entry to the Solar Decathlon.

Russell is principal and owner of in Tampa, Florida. He worked for Pritzker prize Laureate Balkrishna Doshi in Ahmedabad, India, and helped to develop a master plan for Vidyadhar Nagar, Jaipur in Rajasthan, India.  He worked for Team Zoo in Kobe, Japan, and apprenticed with a Japanese master carpenter before starting his own business designing and building homes in Japan.

His work with Team Zoo in Japan was given the coveted ARCASIA Gold Medal as well as City of Kobe townscape design awards. His design/build projects with SACD students won several design awards from the AIA Tampa Bay, Hillsborough County, and Sustainable Florida.  The Flex House was one of 20 projects selected by the NREL  through an international competition and his design for the Classic Car Showroom was selected for the 2019 H. Dean Rowe Award by the AIA Tampa Bay.

His work in Japan has been featured in Japanese periodicals Jutaku Tokushu, Kenchiku Bunka, The Japan Architect, Kazi, Shonan Style, Kenchiku Chisiki, and Yomiuri Shinbun.
